Tips on Renting a House or Apartment

  • Read the lease carefully.  Make sure the lease contains the beginning and ending date as well as the correct rental price.  Also make sure it includes information on any return of a security deposit, reasons the lease can be terminated and the penalty for moving out early.
  • When renting, be sure to consider how far away you want to be from work or school, what's included in the rent, how high the utility bills usually run and how close you are to other areas such as shopping centers
  • Before renting, be sure to visit the complex.
  • Always be sure to get a copy of the lease. 
  • Never sign a lease without first seeing the property.
